Dear potential egg donor
If you are between the ages of 19 and 32, have a regular Body Mass Index (BMI) between 18 and 29 and a regular menstrual cycle, have achieved at least grade 12, you are a non-smoker and do not use drugs or engage in excessive alcohol consumption, we would be very happy to have you on board as one of our egg donors.
Also see below important additional information to address some of your questions or concerns:
- In terms of the National Health Act of 2003 (regulations about artificial fertilisation and related matters) egg donation is completely legal.
- You must be prepared to sacrifice a bit of your time by attending internal examinations by the fertility doctor and have injections on a daily basis for approximately two weeks. Once selected your first consultation will be with the doctor at your clinic and also with a psychologist. During the actual medical procedure you are required to visit the clinic three to four times for ultrasounds, checkups and to coordinate your cycle with the recipient mother. And finally, if you are employed you will also have to take a day’s leave for the egg retrieval process.
- If you are married, your spouse’s consent is needed as well.
- The donation is anonymous and the recipient/s will not know your identity. All that will be seen in terms of your profile is a bit about your physical features and traits, as well as relevant details of your medical and family history. You will use a pseudonym and only childhood pictures of you are displayed. Only registered potential recipients can view your profile.
- The process involves no surgical procedures. You will be under conscious sedation to minimise pain and discomfort.
- You are able to donate multiple times but medical experts advise a maximum of six donations.
- After having donated there is a waiting period of at least one normal cycle and period. This means that you may elect to donate again after having had a resting period of at least three months.
- The South African Medical Ethics committee currently recommends R7000 compensation to the egg donor per donation cycle, but this is something that we will discuss with you in more detail. This is paid to you by the clinic directly (and included in their medical costs charged to the recipient), whilst travel, accommodation and related costs will be paid by the recipient.
Having read all the above, should you be interested in becoming an egg donor of our agency, please complete the application form below.
One of the Surrogacy SA donor team will personally review your application. We truly admire the generosity and courage it takes to fill in an egg donor application but sometimes, for various reasons including logistical factors and SASREG regulated egg donor criteria, applications are not successful. Should you not have heard from us within 14 days it means your application has not met the necessary criteria, however you are most welcome to email us on info@surrogacysa.co.za for further information.
